In April of 1940, Russ Bailey was born in Akron, Ohio. As the only child of blue-collar parents, Russ learned at an early age that success could only be achieved by hard work and a dedication to one's self. His father's death in 1950 followed by his mother's passing in 1958 caused Russ to become more of a loner, so in 1959, he packed up his things and moved out to San Francisco, California to work for his uncle's construction business.
After working in numerous places throughout central California for the duration of the 1960's, Russ took a management job at a shipping company in Reno, Nevada in late 1969. It was there that Russ discovered his prowess at the game of Poker. He played the game only as a hobby for a few years, and found that the same principles by which he had achieved success in life allowed him to win money at the poker tables. Right away, Russ made sure to take note of the tactics and strategies that were gaining him victories.
Through the early and mid-1970's, Russ played all over Nevada in games like 7-card stud and 5-card draw, but he found the variables too few to hold his interest. It wasn't until the widespread introduction of Texas Hold'em in the late 70's that Russ fell head over heels in love with the game of poker.
Russ, who had built up a good-sized savings by this point, got an apartment in Las Vegas in 1979, and began playing Hold'em full time. The rest, as they say, is history. From 1979 to 2003, Russ Bailey was able to travel all over the Western United States, and the methods he used to win at poker back in 1969 still held true as he won time and time again.
In the 1990's, Russ settled down in the Los Angeles area, and began a calmer life, still playing Hold'em as much as possible. Shortly before his death in 2003, Russ Bailey achieved his last goal, to get his wisdom down on paper so it could be passed along to others. "The Russ Bailey Guide to Limit Texas Hold'em Poker" is the fulfillment of Russ Bailey's dying wish.
